Overview

sidekick.nvim shows Copilot LSP "Next Edit Suggestions" as inline and block diffs in Neovim, which you can step through hunk by hunk and apply. It also runs AI CLI tools (Claude, Codex, Gemini, Copilot CLI, aider, opencode and others) in a Neovim terminal, sends file, selection and diagnostics context to them, and can keep sessions alive through tmux or zellij.

Who it is for: Neovim users who want Copilot edit suggestions and AI CLIs in-editor

Strengths

  • Treesitter-highlighted diffs down to word or character level, with hunk-by-hunk navigation
  • Preconfigured for about a dozen AI CLIs, including Claude, Codex, Gemini and aider
  • Prompt templates with context variables such as {file}, {selection} and {diagnostics}
  • Reloads buffers when AI tools modify files; tmux and zellij session persistence

Weaknesses

  • Next Edit Suggestions require the Copilot language server and a Copilot sign-in
  • Requires Neovim 0.11.2 or newer
  • Provides no model or agent of its own; CLI tools are installed separately
  • Optional pieces (snacks.nvim, treesitter-textobjects, lsof, ps) needed for full features

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Neovim >= 0.11.2, copilot-language-server, nvim-lspconfig (lsp/copilot.lua), snacks.nvim (optional), tmux or zellij (optional), lsof and ps (optional)
  • Models: GitHub Copilot (Next Edit Suggestions), Claude CLI, Codex, Gemini, Grok
