Overview
cocoindex-code indexes a repository into AST-based chunks and answers natural-language queries through the `ccc` CLI, an MCP `search` tool, or a `ccc` skill for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others. Embeddings run locally via sentence-transformers or through a cloud provider with LiteLLM. It also includes `ccc grep` for structural pattern search that needs no index.

Strengths
- Works as CLI, MCP stdio server, or skill, with plugin bundles for Claude Code, Grok and Oh My Pi
- Local embeddings need no API key; default model is Snowflake/snowflake-arctic-embed-xs
- Search filters by language and path glob, with pagination and optional index refresh
- `ccc grep` does structural syntax-tree matching locally without index, daemon or embeddings
Weaknesses
- Full install pulls about 1 GB of torch and transformers; full Docker image is about 5 GB
- Docker on macOS runs local embeddings on CPU only, with no Metal access
- `ccc grep` depends on a cocoindex feature that may not be in a released version
- The 70% token saving claim comes with no benchmark in the README
