Overview

VoltAgent is a TypeScript framework for defining agents with typed tools, memory adapters, workflows, supervisor and sub-agent teams, guardrails, evals, voice and MCP support. Providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google are swapped through config. A separate VoltOps Console adds traces, logs, prompts, deployment and triggers, offered as cloud or self-hosted.

Who it is for: TypeScript developers building production multi-agent apps

Strengths

  • Workflow engine with suspend/resume for human-in-the-loop steps
  • Supervisor and sub-agent orchestration, Zod-typed tools and MCP client built in
  • Durable memory adapters, e.g. LibSQL with a local file database
  • create-voltagent-app scaffolds an agent, workflow and Hono server on port 3141

Weaknesses

  • TypeScript/Node only; no Python SDK mentioned in the README
  • Tracing, deployment and managed knowledge base tie into the VoltOps Console
  • README does not say which console features are self-hosted versus cloud-only
  • No Docker or compose files detected in the repository

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Node.js, LLM provider API (e.g. OpenAI), VoltOps Console (optional)
  • Models: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google
  • port 3141
