Overview
MagenticLite is the successor to Magentic-UI from Microsoft AI Frontiers. It pairs an orchestrator model (MagenticBrain) with a browser-use model (Fara) to automate web research, form filling and local file management from a web UI. Browser sessions run in a lightweight VM sandbox (Quicksand), and the agent pauses for approval before critical actions.
Who it is for: Engineers wanting a human-in-the-loop web and file agent on small models
Strengths
- Designed for small models rather than frontier-scale ones
- Browser sessions isolated in a Quicksand VM sandbox
- Approve, steer or take over mid-task; stops before critical actions
- Installs from PyPI with uv and serves a web UI on port 8081
Weaknesses
- You must host or connect a model endpoint yourself
- Quick start covers only macOS and Windows via WSL
- Model hardware requirements are not stated in the README
- A limitations doc lists tasks it does not handle well
What it needs
- Needs uv, Python 3.12, Quicksand VM sandbox, model endpoint
- Models: MagenticBrain, Fara
- port 8081
