Overview
Remodex pairs an iOS app with a Node.js bridge (`remodex up`) on your Mac, which spawns `codex app-server` and forwards JSON-RPC over a WebSocket relay. Prompts, streaming output, git actions and OpenCode chats are handled from the phone while the coding runtime stays local. Pairing uses a one-time QR and an end-to-end encrypted channel; a local relay script is included for self-hosting.
Who it is for: Codex or OpenCode users on a Mac who want to drive sessions from an iPhone
Strengths
- End-to-end encrypted session using X25519 keys; QR pairing, then trusted reconnects
- Runs Codex, git and workspace actions locally on the Mac, not on a hosted service
- Includes relay source and run-local-remodex.sh for self-hosting, default port 9000
- Phone supports git commit/push/pull, plan mode, steering runs and queued prompts
Weaknesses
- Background daemon and auto-reconnect work on macOS only; other OSes run in the foreground
- Needs a signed iOS build or App Store install; no Android client
- Plain LAN ws:// pairing can be unreliable on iOS; Tailscale recommended
- Author warns of early-stage bugs and is not accepting contributions yet
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Node.js 18+, Codex CLI (authenticated), OpenCode CLI (for OpenCode chats), iPhone with Remodex app, Xcode 16+ (to build from source), Tailscale or Cloudflare Tunnel (recommended for remote)
- Models: Codex, OpenCode (Zen, Go, Free models)
- port 9000
