Overview
opcode is a Tauri 2 desktop app (React frontend, Rust backend, SQLite) that sits on top of the Claude Code CLI. It browses projects and sessions under ~/.claude/projects/, runs custom agents as separate processes, and tracks token usage and cost. It also manages MCP servers, session checkpoints with a diff viewer, and CLAUDE.md files.
Who it is for: Claude Code users who want a desktop GUI for sessions, agents and usage tracking
Strengths
- Checkpoints with branching timeline, fork and diff viewer for Claude Code sessions
- Usage dashboard breaks down tokens and cost by model, project and date, with export
- Reads existing ~/.claude data and can import MCP servers from Claude Desktop
- Data stays local in SQLite; README states no telemetry
Weaknesses
- Requires the Claude Code CLI; README mentions only Claude models
- README says prebuilt executables are not yet published; build needs Rust and Bun
- AGPL-3.0 license may restrict use in some organizations
- Last tagged release is 2025-08-31, older than recent commits
What it needs
- RAM ≥ 4 GB
- no GPU
- Needs Claude Code CLI, Rust 1.70+, Bun, Git
- Models: Claude
