Overview
Browser Harness connects a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex to your own logged-in browser through the Chrome DevTools Protocol. The agent writes missing helper functions into a local workspace file as it works, while the core package under src/browser_harness stays protected. It also ships an MCP server, browser-harness-mcp, that exposes the browser helpers as tools over stdio.
Who it is for: Developers giving Claude Code, Codex or MCP clients control of their own browser
Strengths
- Uses your real browser, so existing logins and sessions are available to the agent
- Agent adds its own helpers to agent_helpers.py when one is missing
- MCP server over stdio works with Claude Code, Cursor, Devin and other clients
- MIT license; install and connection steps documented in install.md
Weaknesses
- Requires enabling remote debugging in Chrome, which exposes your personal browser to the agent
- Parallel browsers, proxies, stealth and CAPTCHA solving are offered only via Browser Use Cloud
- Agent-written helpers are not reviewed, so behavior can vary between runs
- README gives no model list, hardware needs or test coverage details
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Chrome with remote debugging enabled, uv, Python 3.12
- Models: Claude Code, Codex, MCP clients
